The Leominster Sportsmen’s Association Primitive Program — often known as the “Mountain Men” — preserves the heritage, craft, and frontier skills of America’s earliest woodsmen. Members gather to practice traditional marksmanship, black powder shooting, bushcraft, and period-style outdoor skills in an environment built on history, camaraderie, and respect for the old ways.

Primitive - Wachusett Mountain Men

The Mountain Men program is guided by dedicated volunteers who keep the traditions of primitive shooting alive through demonstrations, casual shoots, and hands-on instruction. Whether you’re learning to load a flintlock for the first time, refining your black powder accuracy, or exploring bushcraft techniques, the LSA Primitive area provides a safe and engaging space to experience classic frontier skills.

Events often include black powder shoots, historical craft demonstrations, and outdoor skills gatherings. Members enjoy time around the fire discussing traditional gear, load recipes, and period history — making the Primitive area as much a community as it is a range.

Join us and discover the craftsmanship, patience, and tradition that define the LSA Mountain Men.
