The SCTP Leominster Dust Devils are a dedicated youth clay shooting team committed to building skill, confidence, and sportsmanship through structured training in trap, skeet, and sporting clays. As part of the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP)—the nation’s leading youth shooting organization—our athletes learn proper firearm handling, discipline, focus, and responsibility in a safe, supportive environment designed for all experience levels.
Under the guidance of knowledgeable volunteer coaches, shooters train weekly to improve their technical fundamentals while developing the teamwork and mental grit that define competitive clay target sports. Beyond the range, participants form friendships, support each other’s progress, and represent Leominster with pride at events and competitions across New England. The Dust Devils provide a positive, confidence-building pathway for youth to grow as athletes, sportsmen, and leaders—one target at a time.
Dust Devils - What to Expect
Families joining the SCTP Leominster Dust Devils can expect a program built on uncompromising safety fundamentals. Every practice begins with a dedicated safety briefing covering muzzle control, proper handling, range commands, and eye/ear protection. New shooters receive hands-on guidance to ensure they understand safe firearm operation before ever stepping onto the line. Safety is reinforced continuously throughout each session—calmly, consistently, and with patience—so athletes develop habits they can rely on for life.
Practices are held Sundays at noon, weather permitting, and follow a structured rhythm: safety review, warm-up, focused coaching, and supervised time on the trap, skeet, or sporting clays fields depending on the day’s goals. Under the steady leadership of Coach Mark and our volunteer coaching team, each shooter gets clear instruction and personalized support. Beginners are introduced slowly and carefully, while more experienced athletes practice refining their technique and elevating their performance.
Athletes can expect a team environment rooted in respect, responsibility, and encouragement. As they grow more confident, shooters may choose to participate in local or regional competitions—always at their own pace and with full guidance from the coaching staff. Above all, families can expect a program where safety, character, and community come first, and where every athlete is supported on their journey from day one.
