September is packed at LSA. Sunday, September 20 brings three events in one day — Sunday Breakfast with Chef Dan, NRA Day on the ranges from 9 AM to noon at $10 per family, and our Annual Chicken BBQ from noon to 4 PM, with tickets on sale now. Fall is almost here — which means hunting season, shooting season, Sunday Breakfast, our Annual Chicken BBQ, and a whole lot more at LSA.
September is shaping up to be a busy month at the club, with plenty happening for our members, families, and the surrounding community. Here’s everything you need to know as we head into fall.
Mark your calendar
Sunday, September 20
One of the biggest days of the year at the club — three events, back to back. Make a full day of it.
Annual LSA Chicken BBQ
Our Annual Chicken BBQ is back. This is one of LSA’s biggest traditions and an important community event and fundraiser for the club.
Each ticket includes a fresh wood-fired BBQ chicken meal with a potato, salad, dessert, and a drink. Bring the family, enjoy an awesome meal, and spend some time with your fellow club members. We’ll also have a kids’ activity sponsored by Keller Williams Team Molet to keep the little ones busy while you eat.
Tickets are available at the Gun Shop on Wednesday nights, 5–8 PM and Sunday mornings, 8 AM–Noon.
Can’t stay long? We do takeout too. Every ticket helps support LSA and keeps this longstanding club tradition going strong.
Breakfast is back
One of our favorite Sunday traditions returns. Kick off NRA Day with a hearty breakfast from Chef Dan before heading out to the ranges — or just stop by for a great breakfast and some time with fellow members.
Breakfast starts Sunday, September 20 and will be back on Sundays throughout the season. Come hungry, enjoy NRA Day from 9 AM–Noon, then stick around for the Chicken BBQ from 12–4 PM.
NRA Day
After breakfast, head out to the ranges for NRA Day as we celebrate National Hunting & Fishing Day. Come get a safety lesson and experience a variety of shooting sports.
- .22 Rifles
- Pistols
- Shotguns
- Archery
- Black Powder Rifles
We’ll have more than 100 silhouette targets set up for an arcade-style shooting experience. We’ll also be opening the pond for fishing, so if you’d rather cast a line, bring your fishing gear.
Please bring your own safety glasses and hearing protection if possible. We’ll have a limited supply available to borrow at no charge.
High Roost Season 3
High Roost is preparing to officially open the gates for Season 3 on Tuesday, September 15, pending state acceptance of the annual preserve license. Want to get in on the preserve experience this fall?
Whether you want to work your dog, get into upland hunting, bring out a group of friends, or experience a private guided hunt, this is a great opportunity to get out in the field this season.
Complimentary member hunt week
As a thank you to the members of Leominster Sportsmen’s Association, all active LSA members are eligible for a complimentary hunt week at High Roost from October 12–18.
- 4 complimentary bird tags
- Access to the preserve during the designated hunt week
Advance sign-up is required, and bird tags must be requested in advance. To reserve your spot, contact Garrett@hunthighroost.com. You can also learn more at hunthighroost.com.
High Roost will close for two weeks during Massachusetts shotgun deer season in December and will reopen following the conclusion of the closure period.
Preserve access & hunting reminder
As we head into hunting season, please remember that High Roost operates within a designated preserve area of LSA property, and different rules apply within those boundaries during preserve season.
September 15 through March 31
- You must be a High Roost member to hunt birds within the designated preserve area.
- Hunting anything other than birds within the designated preserve area is prohibited during this period, with the exception of the designated two-week shotgun deer season in December.
- Hunting outside of the designated preserve area remains open to LSA members in accordance with all club rules and state hunting regulations — and is encouraged.
Please be aware of preserve boundaries before heading into the field. These restrictions allow preserve operations and other hunting activities on LSA property to safely coexist throughout the season.
New trails & better access to LSA property
Beginning the week of August 24, we’ll start clearing several new paths throughout LSA property. We expect the initial path work to be completed by the first week of September. These new paths will help open up portions of our extensive property that have historically been more difficult for members to access and enjoy.
This initial path cutting will be available for general member use starting April 1.
Access to the back acreage
Portions of the property that have been hard to reach on foot.
More usable club land
Additional ground for members to hunt and explore in season.
Improved emergency access
Faster routes into more areas of LSA property when it matters.
This is just the start of a larger initiative to open up more of LSA’s extensive property for recreation and hunting. Over time we plan to continue clearing, improving, and connecting paths throughout the property. LSA owns a tremendous outdoor resource, and we want our members to have more opportunities to explore it, hunt it, and enjoy it.
Upper Pistol Range — new .22 racks
We have replaced the .22 LR racks on the Upper Pistol Range. A quick reminder for everyone using the range:
Blue means .22
Please pay attention to and follow all posted signage on the Upper Pistol Range. The new markings are designed to make the proper target and caliber requirements easy to identify. Following the range rules protects our equipment and helps keep the ranges safe and available for everyone.
Congratulations, Bryce Morey & the Leominster Dust Devils
Congratulations to Bryce Morey and the entire Leominster Dust Devils youth Trap & Skeet team on a stellar season.

Mark your calendars and bring the family
Between hunting season, High Roost Season 3, complimentary member hunt week, new trails and property access, range improvements, and our youth shooting programs, there’s a lot happening around LSA this fall. None of it happens without our members, volunteers, families, and community supporting the club.
See you at the club.
